Phones today are too damn big for women’s hands😬
And the smaller phones are not as good…
Phones were created unequal😨! And I hadn’t realized in until Caroline Criado Perez pointed it out on Invisible Women, a book where she exposes data bias in a world designed for men.
“Most of the people who’ve been designing the phones are men, so they’ve been designing for the male hand size.” Caroline Criado Perez- Invisible Women
She pointed out that men can comfortably use their device one-handed, while the average woman can’t.
I felt curious and tried it for myself. I used the iPhone XS Max with only one hand and had a hard time doing simple tasks such as texting, scrolling, swiping or taking pics. I also told a male friend to try it with me and he didn’t have a problem at all. ( Watch the videos on my IG post to compare)

It’s easy to think women can solve this just by using their two hands. However, people don’t always have both hands free at all times: maybe they’re carrying a bag, an umbrella, a cup of coffee, holding a handrail on the bus or doing just about anything with one hand. This puts women at a disadvantage. UX professionals should pay attention to users’ needs when designing mobile devices and be aware that there are things that need to be considered-such as the other half of the population’s average hand size🙄 and the context in which users use their device.
It would also be unfair to ask women to just get smaller phones. Smaller phones are often less powerful, have less memory, slower processors, or worse cameras. Women deserve the same quality of tech that men already enjoy.

P.S Have you also noticed that phones don’t fit into a woman’s pocket but they do on men’s? 🤔 Just a thought for your thoughts.
